The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-3125-24-T-D is a 5/16-24 high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap manufactured in the USA. Taper taps are the standard starting tap for threading new holes by hand or in a tap handle, with a gradual chamfer that eases the cutting load as threads are formed. This tap cuts a 5/16-inch major diameter thread at 24 threads per inch (UNF fine thread), making it appropriate for precision fastener applications where a finer thread pitch is required. It is suited for threading steel, aluminum, cast iron, brass, and similar machinable materials.
This tap is used in general metalworking, maintenance and repair, and light fabrication work across mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical trades. The taper chamfer makes it well suited for starting threads in through-holes or in situations where thread engagement needs to be gradually established. At 0.06 pounds, it is a compact, lightweight tool that fits standard tap handles sized for 5/16-inch taps.
Designed as an OEM-style hand taper tap for use in any standard tap handle accepting 5/16-inch taps, suitable for threading through-holes and blind holes in common machinable metals.
Hand taper taps are installed and used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using a standard tap handle or T-handle wrench. Always drill the correct tap drill size for 5/16-24 UNF threads before tapping, and use appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Back the tap out periodically to clear chips, especially in blind holes. Follow applicable safety practices for hand tool use and secure the workpiece firmly before threading.
