The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-3125-18-P-I is a 5/16-18 high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in metalworking and fabrication applications. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes this tap the standard starting choice when threading through-holes or when sufficient clearance exists below the hole. At 0.31 pounds, it is lightweight enough for single-hand use with a standard tap wrench. Machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, and general fabricators rely on HSS plug taps for reliable thread-cutting performance across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This tap is suited for threading 5/16-18 Unified National Coarse (UNC) threads by hand in shop, field, and maintenance environments. Typical applications include threading bolt-hole repairs, creating new tapped holes in fixtures, and restoring damaged threads in structural or mechanical components. It is commonly used in light industrial, HVAC equipment assembly, plumbing bracket fabrication, and general mechanical maintenance work where a standard coarse-thread 5/16 inch tap is required.
Designed as a standard hand plug tap for use with conventional tap wrenches or T-handle tap holders sized for 5/16-18 UNC threading work in metalworking and maintenance applications.
This tap is intended for hand-tapping only — do not use in power-driven tap holders unless the tool is explicitly rated for machine use. Secure the workpiece firmly before threading and apply appropriate cutting fluid to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Start the tap perpendicular to the workpiece surface to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage. Broken taps are difficult to remove; use steady, controlled pressure and back off periodically to clear chips.
