The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-3125-18-P-D is a 5/16-18 high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap manufactured in the USA. It cuts internal threads in a 5/16-inch diameter hole with 18 threads per inch (UNC coarse thread pitch). The plug chamfer style — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it suitable for through-holes and most blind-hole applications where a starting tap has already been used or where a single tap is run through the full threading operation. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians install this tap by hand with a standard tap wrench.
This tap is used in general metalworking, maintenance and repair, and light manufacturing settings. It is appropriate for threading mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable materials in both shop and field environments. The 5/16-18 UNC thread form is one of the most common fastener sizes in North American mechanical assemblies, making this tap a standard item in trade tool kits and shop tap-and-die sets.
Designed as a hand tap for use with standard tap wrenches accepting the appropriate square shank drive. Suitable for cutting 5/16-18 UNC internal threads in machinable metals and plastics.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should perform tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before threading. Apply appropriate cutting fluid to the tap to reduce friction and extend tool life. Back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent binding, especially in blind holes.
