The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-2500-28-B-D is a 1/4-28 high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap manufactured in the USA. A bottom tap is ground with minimal chamfer on the leading threads, allowing it to cut full threads to the very bottom of a blind hole. This makes it the correct choice when thread engagement is needed as close to the bottom of a drilled hole as possible. At 0.06 pounds, it is a lightweight, hand-held tool intended for use with a tap wrench or T-handle. Machinists, pipefitters, plumbers, and HVAC technicians rely on bottom taps for finishing threaded holes in steel, aluminum, and other common metals.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in metal components, brackets, enclosures, and mechanical assemblies wherever a 1/4-28 UNF fine-thread fastener must seat near the bottom of the hole. Fine-thread 1/4-28 fasteners are common in instrumentation, HVAC control panels, electrical enclosures, and light mechanical assemblies. This tap completes a three-tap sequence — typically after a taper tap and plug tap have been run — or it is used alone when only the final bottom-thread pass is needed.
Designed as a hand-operated bottom tap for use in any application requiring 1/4-28 UNF internal threads in metal or compatible materials.
This tap is intended for use with a tap wrench or T-handle by a trained machinist or trade professional. Always ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 1/4-28 UNF before tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and reduce the risk of tap breakage. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and clear the flutes, especially in blind holes.
