The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-2500-20-T-D is a 1/4-20 high-speed steel hand taper tap manufactured in the USA. It is designed for cutting internal threads by hand in through-holes and blind holes where a gradual thread lead-in is preferred. The taper tap features a tapered lead of several threads at the cutting end, which distributes cutting force progressively as the tap enters the workpiece. This geometry makes it well suited for starting threads cleanly in steel, iron, aluminum, and similar materials. Plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, and general trade mechanics reach for this tap when threading pipe fittings, junction boxes, brackets, and structural components in the field or shop.
This tap is used wherever 1/4-20 UNC inch-series threads are required. The 1/4-20 thread size is one of the most common unified coarse-thread standards in the trade, appearing in electrical enclosures, equipment mounting hardware, conduit fittings, HVAC equipment frames, and plumbing fixture brackets. It is appropriate for light- to medium-duty hand tapping operations in both residential and commercial maintenance and fabrication work. The taper entry style is particularly useful when starting a tap square in a drilled hole without a guide fixture.
Designed as a hand taper tap for cutting 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous metals and other machinable materials. Compatible with standard tap wrenches sized for 1/4-inch tap shanks.
This tap is installed by a machinist, maintenance technician, or licensed tradesperson using a hand tap wrench. Before tapping, drill the correct tap drill size for 1/4-20 threads and deburr the hole opening. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Advance the tap slowly with a quarter-turn back for every half-turn forward to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind holes.
