The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-2500-20-B-I is a 1/4-20 high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap designed for cutting fully formed threads to the bottom of a blind hole. The bottom tap geometry features minimal chamfer on the leading threads, allowing the tap to cut threads as close to the base of the hole as possible. At 0.31 pounds, it is a lightweight, single-piece tool suited for bench work, maintenance threading, and production thread chasing by hand. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians reach for this tap when a plug or taper tap cannot finish the last few threads in a stopped hole.
This tap is used wherever a 1/4-20 unified coarse (UNC) internal thread must be cut flush to the bottom of a blind bore. Typical applications include threading holes in steel brackets, aluminum fixtures, and general fabrication work in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade environments. It is operated by hand with a standard tap wrench and is well suited for repair threading, field service, and light production use where machine tapping is not practical.
Designed as a standard 1/4-20 UNC hand bottom tap compatible with any tap wrench sized to accept its shank. Suitable for use in steel, aluminum, cast iron, and similar machinable materials where a 1/4-20 internal thread is required.
Install and operate this tap with an appropriately sized hand tap wrench — do not use power drivers, as overdriving a hand tap can cause breakage. Always start with a properly sized and drilled tap drill hole, using cutting oil or thread-cutting fluid to reduce friction and extend tap life. Back the tap out periodically to clear chips, especially in blind holes. Follow applicable shop safety practices and wear eye protection during all tapping operations.
