The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-22500-8-P-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap sized at 2-1/4 inches with an 8 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch. Plug taps feature a tapered lead of 3 to 5 threads, making them the standard starting choice for through-holes and for chasing threads in most production and repair applications. This import-grade tap is suited for manual tapping operations in machine shops, pipe and mechanical fitting work, and heavy maintenance tasks where a large-diameter coarse thread is required. The HSS construction provides adequate hardness and wear resistance for threading mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials by hand.
This tap is appropriate for applications requiring a 2-1/4 inch - 8 TPI Unified National Coarse (UNC) or compatible thread form in heavy industrial, structural, or mechanical assembly work. Typical use cases include large fastener repair, custom fabrication, and maintenance of heavy equipment where large-diameter threaded connections are serviced or created. It is intended for hand tapping with a standard tap wrench and is not designed for machine or CNC tapping cycles.
Designed for use in manual tapping applications requiring a 2-1/4 inch - 8 TPI thread form. Intended for use with a standard large-diameter hand tap wrench.
A licensed machinist or experienced tradesperson should perform large-diameter hand tapping operations. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for a 2-1/4 inch - 8 TPI thread per standard tap drill charts. Apply cutting fluid throughout the tapping process and back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Do not force the tap if resistance increases sharply, as tap breakage in large-diameter HSS taps can result in significant workpiece damage.
