The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-20000-8-B-I is a 2-8 high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap designed for cutting full threads to the bottom of blind holes. This tap produces a 2-inch diameter thread at 8 threads per inch (TPI) using a bottom-style chamfer, which allows threading closer to the base of a hole than taper or plug taps. It is an import-grade tap intended for manual hand-tapping operations. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians reach for bottom taps when a through-tap or plug tap has already started the thread and a fully threaded blind hole is required.
This tap is suited for threading operations in metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair environments, and light industrial applications where large-diameter hand tapping is performed. The 2-8 UNC thread specification makes it appropriate for heavy fastener applications, structural bolt holes, and large-diameter threaded connections common in equipment repair and fabrication work. It is used as a hand tap and is driven with a standard tap wrench sized for large-shank taps.
Designed as a hand bottom tap for 2-8 UNC threaded holes, compatible with standard large-shank tap wrenches used in manual threading operations.
This tap is installed by hand using a properly sized tap wrench. Secure the workpiece before beginning and apply cutting fluid throughout the tapping process to reduce heat and extend tool life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged cutting edge can seize in the hole or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
