The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-20000-4.5-T-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap designed for cutting internal threads across a range of pipe and fastener sizes from 2 to 4.5 inches. The taper geometry guides the tap into an unthreaded hole gradually, reducing torque and the risk of tap breakage during manual threading operations. At 0.31 pounds, this is a lightweight, single-piece tool suited for bench work and field tapping jobs. It is intended for hand-driven use with a tap wrench and is commonly selected for threading mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials.
This tap fits standard threading applications in plumbing, mechanical, and fabrication trades where large-diameter internal threads must be cut by hand. The taper lead — typically 8 to 10 threads of chamfer on a hand taper — makes it practical for starting threads in through-holes or for the first-pass threading of blind holes before a plug or bottoming tap is used. It is an import-grade tool suited for moderate-duty production runs, maintenance work, and repair threading where a cost-effective option is appropriate.
Designed as a hand taper tap for use with standard tap wrenches compatible with large-diameter HSS taps in the 2 to 4.5 inch size range.
This tap is installed by hand using an appropriately sized tap wrench — power driving is not recommended for hand taps of this type. Before tapping, secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the starter hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for the intended thread form and pitch. Apply cutting fluid throughout the operation and back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Follow applicable shop safety practices and consult thread standards when specifying thread class and tolerance.
