The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-20000-4.5-P-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap sized at 2 inches with a 4.5 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch. Plug taps feature a chamfer length of 3 to 5 threads, making them suitable for starting threads partway into a through hole or continuing a thread started by a taper tap. The HSS construction provides the hardness and wear resistance needed for threading mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials by hand. This tap is an import-grade tool intended for maintenance, repair, and production threading operations performed by machinists, pipefitters, and industrial tradespeople.
This tap is used wherever large-diameter coarse threads must be cut by hand in a shop or field setting. The 2-inch, 4.5-TPI specification places this tool in large-diameter threading applications commonly found in heavy equipment maintenance, pressure vessel work, structural fabrication, and industrial pipe and flange repair. It is driven with a standard tap wrench sized for large-shank taps and is suited for use on materials that machine well with HSS tooling.
Designed for use in large-diameter hand tapping applications requiring a 2-inch, 4.5-TPI thread form. Confirm thread standard and fit requirements before use, as large-diameter taps may correspond to multiple thread standards at this pitch.
Hand tapping should be performed by a qualified machinist or tradesperson using a properly sized tap wrench. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is started perpendicular to the work surface to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material throughout the threading operation. Reverse the tap periodically to break chips and reduce the risk of binding, especially in deep or blind holes.
