The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-18750-8-B-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap designed to cut threads in through-holes and blind holes where threads must extend close to the bottom. With a 1-7/8 inch major diameter and 8 threads per inch (TPI) thread pitch, this tap handles large-diameter threading tasks in metal fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications. It is ground to standard hand tap tolerances and suited for use with a tap wrench or adjustable tap handle. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is used in shops and field maintenance environments where large fastener threads need to be cut or restored in steel, cast iron, aluminum, or similar materials. The bottom chamfer — typically 1 to 2 threads — allows threading to within one or two thread pitches of the bottom of a blind hole, making it the correct choice when a plug or taper tap has already been used to start the thread. It is commonly paired with cutting fluid to extend tool life and improve thread finish.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard hand bottom tap for 1-7/8 inch-8 UNC or equivalent large-diameter threaded applications in general metalworking and maintenance environments.
This tap should be installed using a properly sized tap wrench to maintain alignment and prevent breakage. Always apply cutting fluid or tapping compound before and during use to reduce friction and extend tap life. Use a taper or plug tap to start the thread before using this bottom tap in blind holes. Secure the workpiece firmly and advance the tap slowly, backing off periodically to break chips.
