The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-15000-8-B-I is a 1-1/2 inch diameter, 8 threads-per-inch (TPI) high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-holes and blind holes where threads must extend close to the bottom. The bottom chamfer allows threading to within a few threads of the hole bottom, making it the correct choice when maximum thread depth is required. At 1.8 pounds, it is sized for use with a tap wrench or machine fixture and is suited to threading operations in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials encountered in industrial and mechanical trade work.
This tap is used in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, plumbing rough-in, and mechanical contracting wherever a 1-1/2 inch-8 UNC thread is required in a blind or through-hole application. The bottom style is selected when a taper or plug tap has already started the thread and full thread depth to the bottom of the bore is needed. It is commonly used by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and general mechanical tradespeople working on large-diameter threaded connections, flanges, and industrial equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-service hand bottom tap for applications requiring a 1-1/2 inch-8 UNC thread, compatible with any standard tap wrench or tapping fixture sized for large-diameter hand taps.
Bottom taps are typically the final tap used in a three-tap sequence, following a taper tap and a plug tap to bring threads to full depth. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the hole is correctly sized per published tap drill charts before starting. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and reduce the risk of tap breakage. Worn or broken taps in large-diameter bores are difficult to extract, so avoid excessive force and back off frequently to clear chips.
