The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-12500-7-P-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap designed for cutting 1-1/4 inch diameter threads at 7 threads per inch (TPI). The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads — allows the tap to start easily in a pre-drilled through hole or blind hole while progressively cutting full-form threads. HSS construction provides the hardness and heat resistance needed for tapping steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials by hand. This tap is suitable for machinists, pipefitters, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working with larger-diameter fastener threads in production or field repair applications.
This tap is used wherever a 1-1/4-7 UNC thread must be cut or cleaned in metalwork. Typical applications include structural fabrication, heavy equipment repair, and industrial maintenance where large-diameter coarse-thread fasteners are specified. The plug style makes it the standard choice when starting a thread from scratch in a through hole or when chasing damaged threads. It is used with a tap wrench or appropriate holder sized for the tap's square drive shank.
Designed as a standard hand plug tap for cutting or chasing 1-1/4-7 UNC threads in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Compatible with standard tap wrenches sized for large-shank hand taps.
Use with a properly sized tap wrench and ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before beginning. Apply cutting oil or tapping fluid throughout the operation to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Advance the tap in partial turns and back off periodically to break chips, particularly in blind holes. Follow applicable shop safety practices and wear appropriate eye protection when hand tapping.
