The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-12500-12-P-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap ground to a 1-1/4 inch diameter with a 12 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch. Plug taps feature a chamfer on the first 3 to 5 threads, making them the standard starting choice for most through-hole and open blind-hole threading applications. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians use this tap for manual hand-tapping operations where controlled torque and feel are required. The HSS construction provides the hardness and wear resistance needed for threading steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials.
This tap is suited for general industrial, maintenance, and machine shop use where a 1-1/4-12 unified national fine (UNF) thread form is required. The 12 TPI pitch is a fine-thread specification commonly found in heavy equipment components, hydraulic fittings, and structural fastener applications. It is intended for hand-tapping with a standard tap wrench and is not designed for power-driven tap holders or CNC tapping operations without appropriate toolholding.
Designed as a standard hand plug tap for use in any application requiring a 1-1/4-12 thread form in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Use this tap with a properly sized tap wrench to maintain alignment and control cutting torque. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Always back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind holes. Follow applicable shop safety practices and wear appropriate eye protection when cutting threads.
