The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-12500-12-B-I is a 1-1/4 inch diameter, 12 threads-per-inch (TPI) high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap designed for threading holes to the full depth of blind bores. Bottom taps feature minimal lead threads, allowing the cutting edge to reach close to the bottom of a drilled hole where plug or taper taps cannot reach. This tap is suited for manual threading operations using a tap wrench or threading handle. Licensed machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance mechanics reach for bottom taps as the final step in a three-tap sequence or whenever a blind hole requires fully formed threads at depth.
This tap is used in general metalworking, maintenance and repair operations (MRO), and fabrication environments. It is appropriate for threading mild steel, aluminum, and similar machinable materials by hand. The 1-1/4 inch-12 UNF thread specification makes it a fine-pitch option for applications requiring stronger thread engagement than a coarse-pitch (UNC) tap would provide at this diameter. Typical use cases include heavy equipment repair, structural fabrication, and industrial maintenance where bottoming thread engagement is critical.
Designed as a hand bottom tap for 1-1/4 inch-12 UNF threaded holes in metalworking and MRO applications where blind-hole bottoming thread engagement is required.
A licensed machinist or experienced mechanic should perform hand tapping operations. Always use the correct tap drill size for a 1-1/4 inch-12 thread before introducing the tap, and apply cutting fluid throughout the process to reduce heat and extend tool life. Use steady, even pressure and back the tap out frequently to break chips and prevent tap breakage. Never force a tap against resistance — back off and clear chips before continuing.
