The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-1224-B-I is a 12-24 thread high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap designed for cutting internal threads close to the bottom of a blind hole. Bottom taps have minimal lead threads, allowing the cutting edges to reach nearly the full depth of a drilled hole. This tap is intended for hand tapping operations and is suited for use in steel, aluminum, and other common shop materials. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators reach for bottom taps when thread depth requirements leave no room for the taper or plug style to finish the job.
This tap is used in general metalworking, maintenance and repair, and light manufacturing applications where 12-24 unified coarse threads are required. The 12-24 thread designation indicates a No. 12 major diameter with 24 threads per inch, a common fastener thread found in electrical enclosures, equipment panels, and light mechanical assemblies. It is typically the third tap used in a hand-tapping sequence, following a taper and plug tap to clear the initial threads before the bottom tap finishes the last few threads at the base of the hole.
Designed as a standard hand bottom tap for use wherever 12-24 unified coarse internal threads are required in metalworking or maintenance applications.
This tap is intended for use with a hand tap wrench. Always ensure the hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for a 12-24 thread before tapping. Apply cutting fluid to the tap and work piece to reduce friction and extend tool life. Back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent binding or tap breakage in blind holes.
