The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-1024-T-D is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap designed to cut 10-24 unified coarse (UNC) internal threads by hand. Taper taps are ground with a gradual lead — typically 8 to 10 threads of taper — to ease entry into a drilled hole and distribute cutting load across multiple teeth. This tap is suited for threading steel, iron, aluminum, and similar materials in maintenance, fabrication, and field repair applications. Manufactured in the USA, the HT-1024-T-D is built to ASME/ANSI tap standards for consistent thread form and dimensional accuracy.
This tap is used wherever a 10-24 UNC threaded hole is required and power-tapping equipment is not available or practical. Common applications include machine assembly, equipment repair, electrical enclosure work, and HVAC or mechanical panel fabrication. The taper geometry makes it well suited for starting threads in through-holes or as the first tap in a hand-tapping sequence followed by a plug or bottoming tap when blind holes require full-depth threads.
Designed as a standard 10-24 UNC hand taper tap suitable for use with any tap wrench or T-handle accepting standard square-drive tap shanks of this size class.
This tap is installed by a machinist, maintenance technician, or trade professional using a tap wrench sized for the shank. The workpiece should be securely clamped and the correct tap drill size used prior to tapping to achieve proper thread engagement. Apply cutting oil or tapping fluid to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding, especially in deeper holes.
