The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-10000-14-B-D is a 1-14 high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap manufactured in the USA. Bottom taps are ground with minimal chamfer on the leading threads, allowing them to cut threads to the bottom of a blind hole where a taper or plug tap cannot reach. This tap is sized for a 1-inch major diameter with 14 threads per inch in a UNS thread form and is intended for hand-tapping operations. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians reach for bottom taps when a workpiece requires fully threaded blind holes with little or no runout at the base.
This tap is suited for use in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and maintenance environments where blind-hole threading is a routine operation. The 1-14 thread size is common in heavy-duty mechanical assemblies, hydraulic fittings, and large fastener applications. It is appropriate for use in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials when the correct cutting fluid is applied. Hand-tapping with a tap wrench or T-handle is the standard method for this tool type.
Designed as an OEM-style hand bottom tap for 1-14 thread-form applications in standard hand-tapping setups using a compatible tap wrench or T-handle driver.
Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole before beginning. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Use a calibrated tap wrench and advance the tap with periodic reverse strokes to break chips and prevent binding. Replace or inspect the tap if resistance increases sharply or chatter develops, as forcing a worn tap in a blind hole risks breakage and workpiece damage.
