The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL CHD-5000-20-I is a carbon steel hex rethread die designed to clean and restore damaged or corroded external threads. It cuts a 1/2 inch diameter, 20 threads-per-inch (TPI) thread profile. The hexagonal body allows standard wrench or die-stock engagement for controlled hand operation. Plumbers, pipefitters, and general maintenance mechanics use this type of rethread die to salvage threaded fasteners, bolts, and pipe nipples on the job without replacing the entire component. At 1.96 pounds, the die is sized for bench or field use.
This die is suited for restoring unified fine (UNF) 1/2-20 external threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod in residential and light commercial maintenance applications. It is commonly used in mechanical rooms, on equipment frames, and in any situation where a bolt or stud has sustained thread damage from corrosion, impact, or cross-threading. The hex profile seats firmly in a standard die stock or can be driven with an appropriately sized wrench in tight access situations.
Designed for restoring or chasing 1/2-20 UNF external threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod in general mechanical and maintenance applications.
This die is installed and operated by licensed mechanics, plumbers, or pipefitters performing thread restoration work. Before use, secure the workpiece and apply a cutting or tapping fluid to reduce heat and improve thread quality. Drive the die slowly and back off periodically to clear chips. Do not force the die onto heavily corroded or deformed stock without first removing gross material with a file or thread file.
