The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL 1212XL-017-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) long series drill bit, commonly referred to in the trade as a Longboy drill. With a 17/64 inch diameter and a 12 inch overall length (OAL), it is built for drilling deep-reach applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the workpoint. The extra length allows drilling through thick structural members, stacked material, or deep castings without needing extensions. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors reach for long series bits when routing holes through joists, studs, and wall assemblies. The HSS construction holds a serviceable edge across a wide range of common metals, plastics, and wood composites.
This long series drill bit is suited for trade professionals who regularly drill through deep or obstructed material in residential and light commercial construction. Electricians use extended-length bits to route conduit paths and wire runs through structural framing. Plumbers and HVAC technicians use them to penetrate thick assemblies for pipe and duct penetrations. The 12 inch OAL gives adequate clearance for drilling through double or triple framing members in a single pass.
Designed as a long series replacement or supplemental drill bit compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting a 17/64 inch shank, for use in handheld drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills common in trade applications.
Long series drill bits should be seated fully and securely in the chuck before operation to prevent runout and bit breakage. Reduce feed pressure when drilling through hard metals to extend bit life and maintain hole accuracy. Secure the workpiece before drilling, and wear appropriate eye and hand protection per standard trade practice. Periodically clear chips from the flutes during deep drilling to prevent binding and heat buildup.
