The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL 1090-034-I is a 17/32-inch high speed steel (HSS) screw machine (stub) length drill bit with a 1/2-inch reduced shank. Screw machine length bits are shorter than jobber-length drills, which gives them increased rigidity and reduces deflection when drilling in tight spaces or through hard materials. The 1/2-inch shank allows the bit to seat in standard 1/2-inch drill chucks regardless of the cutting diameter. HSS construction handles a broad range of metalworking and general fabrication tasks. This bit is suited for machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and general contractors working in metal or wood substrates.
This drill bit is used in production machining, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, and general industrial applications where a stub-length profile is preferred for added stiffness. The reduced shank design allows it to run in standard 1/2-inch drill chucks and drill presses without requiring a specialty holder. It is well-suited for drilling through mild steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and similar materials in both shop and field settings.
Designed as a standard replacement or supplemental screw machine length drill bit for use in any 1/2-inch keyed or keyless drill chuck, benchtop drill press, or milling machine collet rated for a 1/2-inch shank diameter.
A licensed machinist or qualified tradesperson should secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation. Ensure the drill press or handheld drill is powered off and the chuck is fully tightened before beginning any drilling operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Eye protection and work-holding fixtures are required per standard shop safety practice.
