The DYNABRADE 54406 is a pneumatic handheld disc sander built for material removal, surface preparation, and finishing work in industrial and trade environments. Powered by compressed air at 90 psi, it spins a 4 inch disc at up to 12,000 RPM and draws 39 CFM of air flow. The motor delivers 0.7 hp, making it well suited for aggressive sanding passes on metal, composites, and wood substrates. A rear exhaust location keeps debris and airflow directed away from the work surface. The 1/4 inch inlet fitting connects to standard shop air lines. Metalworkers, fabricators, auto body technicians, and maintenance trades are the primary installers and operators of this tool.
The 54406 is designed for use with 4 inch abrasive discs in applications requiring controlled stock removal and surface finishing. The included 50192 Hard Density Locking-Type Backup Pad, 4 inch diameter, provides a firm foundation for consistent disc contact. Typical applications include weld seam blending, rust removal, paint stripping, and surface prep ahead of coating or inspection. This tool is intended for professional use in fabrication shops, manufacturing facilities, and field maintenance settings where a reliable air-powered sander is required.
Designed for use with 4 inch abrasive discs and includes the 50192 Hard Density Locking-Type Backup Pad measuring 4 inches (102 mm) in diameter. Compatible with standard 1/4 inch NPT air supply lines operating at 90 psi.
Connection to a compressed air supply should be made by a qualified operator familiar with pneumatic tool safety. Shut off and bleed the air line before attaching or removing the tool from the air supply. Verify the air supply pressure does not exceed the rated 90 psi operating pressure before use. Always inspect the backup pad and abrasive disc for damage before operation, and ensure the disc is properly seated and locked before starting the tool.
