The DURA PLASTIC 839-339 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducing bushing designed to transition threaded pipe connections from 3 inches male NPT down to 2.5 inches female NPT. Built to SCH 80/XH wall thickness standards, this bushing delivers greater pressure resistance than Schedule 40 fittings, making it suitable for demanding industrial and commercial piping applications. PVC construction resists corrosion and chemical attack across a wide range of process fluids. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this fitting wherever a male-to-female threaded reducer is needed in a PVC pressure system.
This reducing bushing is used in water distribution, irrigation, chemical processing, and pool or spa plumbing systems that require a step-down connection between 3-inch and 2.5-inch threaded lines. The MNPT x FNPT configuration allows the bushing to thread directly into a female-threaded fitting or valve body while accepting a smaller male-threaded pipe or fitting on the downstream side. It is appropriate for both above-ground and in-wall installations where Schedule 80 pressure ratings are specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems using standard NPT thread forms.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Isolate and depressurize the system completely before removing any existing fitting. Apply PTFE thread sealant tape or an approved pipe thread compound to the male threads before assembly, and hand-tighten followed by wrench tightening — do not overtighten PVC threaded fittings, as excessive torque can crack the socket. Pressure-test the system after installation to verify a leak-free connection.
