The DURA PLASTIC 838-422 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducer bushing designed to transition between a 4-inch spigot connection and a 3-inch female NPT (FNPT) threaded port. Built from rigid PVC, this bushing handles the mechanical and chemical demands of industrial and commercial piping systems where pressure ratings and material compatibility are critical. The SCH 80 wall thickness provides a higher pressure rating than SCH 40, making it suitable for demanding fluid-handling applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting as part of PVC pressure piping assemblies in water treatment, irrigation, chemical distribution, and HVAC condensate or chilled-water systems.
This reducer bushing is used wherever a spigot-to-female-threaded reduction is needed in a 4-inch to 3-inch transition. Typical installations include pump discharge headers, filtration manifolds, pool and spa plumbing, and industrial process lines. The FNPT end accepts a standard male NPT threaded fitting or pipe, while the spigot end cements directly into a socket fitting. Domestic manufacture supports projects requiring American-made components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC pressure piping systems requiring a 4-inch spigot to 3-inch FNPT reduction.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Depressurize and drain the piping system completely before cutting into any line or removing existing fittings. The spigot end requires PVC primer and solvent cement rated for SCH 80 pressure fittings; apply cement per the manufacturer procedure and allow full cure time before pressurizing. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male NPT threads mating into the FNPT port and do not overtighten, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque.
