The DURA PLASTIC 838-338 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducer bushing with a 3-inch spigot inlet and a 2-inch female NPT (FNPT) outlet. It is used to step down pipe or fitting connections in pressure-rated piping systems. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides greater pressure capacity and impact resistance compared to Schedule 40, making it suitable for industrial, commercial, and demanding plumbing or chemical-handling applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers. The bushing transitions from a spigot end that inserts into a socket fitting to a threaded female end that accepts a male NPT fitting or nipple.
This bushing fits into systems where a 3-inch socket fitting must reduce to a 2-inch male-threaded connection. Common applications include process piping, irrigation headers, pool and spa plumbing, and commercial plumbing installations where PVC pressure fittings are specified. The spigot-by-FNPT configuration allows the bushing to be solvent-cemented into an existing 3-inch socket and then accept a 2-inch threaded component on the outlet side.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using 3-inch socket and 2-inch NPT threaded connections.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before cutting into any existing line. The spigot end requires proper PVC primer and solvent cement applied per the cement manufacturer instructions and applicable plumbing code. Do not apply thread sealant or pipe dope to the solvent-cement spigot end; use appropriate thread sealant only on the FNPT threaded connection.
