The DURA PLASTIC 837-422 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducing bushing designed to transition a 4-inch line down to a 3-inch line using a spigot-by-socket end configuration. The spigot end inserts into an existing female socket fitting, while the socket end accepts the smaller pipe or male fitting. Built from Schedule 80 PVC, this bushing carries thicker walls than Schedule 40, making it suited for higher-pressure systems and industrial piping applications. It is installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and pool or irrigation service technicians wherever a straight, solvent-welded pipe reduction is needed in a PVC pressure system.
This bushing is used in residential and commercial pressure piping systems, including potable water supply, irrigation, industrial process lines, and pool and spa plumbing. The spigot-by-socket design allows it to be inserted directly into a 4-inch socket fitting on one end and to accept a 3-inch pipe or fitting on the other, making it a straightforward reduction solution without the need for a separate coupling. Domestic manufacture meets the standards expected on projects requiring USA-made components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using 4-inch and 3-inch nominal pipe sizes joined by solvent cement.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before cutting into any existing line. Use only PVC-rated primer and solvent cement rated for Schedule 80 fittings, and allow full cure time before repressurizing the system. Do not use this fitting with pipe schedules, materials, or adhesives for which it is not rated.
