The DUMONT MINUTE MAN 22216 is a Style E keyway broach manufactured from high speed steel for cutting 5/8-inch keyways in bores, hubs, and pulleys. It delivers a finished keyway width tolerance of 0.626 to 0.627 inches in a single press stroke, making it a reliable tool for machinists and maintenance professionals working with arbor presses or hydraulic presses. At 15-1/2 inches overall length with a 3/4-inch body width, this broach handles cutting lengths from 1 to 6 inches. Four shims are required for use and must be included in the setup to achieve proper cut depth progression.
This broach is suited for production and maintenance environments where keyways must be cut into ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. Typical applications include keying sprockets, gears, pulleys, and coupling hubs in industrial and mechanical drive systems. The uncoated high speed steel construction is appropriate for general-purpose keyway broaching at the press capacities common to job shops, maintenance facilities, and machine shops. The Style E designation indicates the broach profile and shim system compatible with standard DUMONT broach sets and arbor press tooling setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use keyway broach for standard arbor press and hydraulic press setups requiring a Style E, 5/8-inch broach with a 3/4-inch body width.
Keyway broaching is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using an arbor press or hydraulic press rated for the required press force. Ensure the press and workpiece are properly supported and aligned before applying force. All four shims must be staged and used in sequence to achieve correct keyway depth; skipping shims can damage the broach or the workpiece. Always inspect the broach for chips or cracks before each use and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material.
