The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 57975 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar cut to 0.625 inches thick, 3.5 inches wide, and 36 inches long. O1 is an AISI-standard oil-hardening tool steel known for good dimensional stability during heat treatment and strong wear resistance after hardening. This flat stock ships in an annealed, machinable condition and is intended for fabrication of punches, dies, gauges, jigs, and other precision tooling components. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and metalworking fabricators are the primary users. At 22.56 pounds per piece, this is a substantial section suited to medium and heavy tooling applications.
This flat bar is appropriate for shop fabrication of cutting tools, forming dies, blanking punches, and fixture components in both job-shop and production tooling environments. The 36-inch length allows multiple blanks to be cut from a single piece, reducing scrap and setup time. Its annealed condition makes it ready for milling, drilling, grinding, and turning prior to oil-quench hardening and tempering. Commercial machine shops, tool rooms, and precision fabrication facilities are the typical end users for this size and grade.
Designed as a standard AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for general tooling fabrication applications requiring oil-quench heat treatment and precise dimensional tolerances.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists using appropriate coolant to prevent surface hardening from heat buildup. Heat treatment - including austenitizing temperature, quench media, and tempering cycle - must follow AISI O1 specifications and should be performed by a qualified heat treater or tool room professional. Always allow stock to reach ambient temperature before final grinding to finished dimensions. Follow applicable shop safety standards for handling and storing tool steel bar stock.
