The DRILL ROD TOOL STEELS 02630911 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar cut to 7/32 inch thick, 1/2 inch wide, and 36 inches long. A2 tool steel is an air-hardening, cold-work die steel known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment, good toughness, and moderate wear resistance. This flat stock is precision-ground to tight tolerances - thickness held to plus or minus 0.001 inch and width held to plus 0.000 to plus 0.005 inch - making it ready for use in toolroom and die shop applications. Machinists, toolmakers, and die setters work with this stock to fabricate punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools.
A2 flat stock in this size range is commonly used in job shops, toolrooms, and industrial maintenance departments. It is well-suited for applications requiring moderate shock resistance combined with good wear life, such as blanking dies, forming dies, trimming tools, and fixtures. At 36 inches in length, the bar provides enough stock for multiple parts to be machined from a single piece, reducing material waste in short-run and prototype tooling work.
Designed as a standard A2 air-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for general toolroom, die making, and fixture fabrication applications where AISI A2 material specification is required.
A2 tool steel flat stock is cut, ground, and machined by toolmakers and machinists using standard metalworking equipment. Proper personal protective equipment, including eye protection and gloves, should be used during cutting and grinding operations. Heat treatment should be performed by qualified personnel following established procedures for AISI A2 tool steel, including proper preheating, austenitizing, and controlled air-cooling sequences. Do not quench in water or oil - A2 is an air-hardening grade and must be cooled in still or moving air to develop correct hardness.
