The DOW CORNING 2455846 is a room-temperature-vulcanizing (RTV) silicone joint sealant supplied in a 3 oz tube. Part of the 748 Series, it is formulated for sealing and gasketing applications where broad temperature resistance is required. The sealant reaches a tack-free state in 30 minutes and achieves full cure in 36 hours. It performs across a service range of -67 degrees F to 350 degrees F (-55 degrees C to 177 degrees C), making it suitable for demanding mechanical and HVAC environments. Licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This sealant is used in residential and commercial applications where a flexible, heat-resistant joint compound is needed. It is well suited for sealing pipe penetrations, gasketing metal assemblies, and forming in-place gaskets on HVAC equipment, refrigeration units, and food-processing machinery. The food-safe designation makes it appropriate for use in environments regulated under FDA guidelines, including commercial kitchen equipment and food-contact surfaces where incidental contact is a concern.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose RTV silicone sealant for use on metal, glass, ceramic, and most plastics in HVAC, refrigeration, and food-service equipment applications.
Apply to clean, dry surfaces free of oil, grease, and loose debris for best adhesion. Allow the sealant to reach full cure (36 hours) before subjecting the joint to operating temperatures or mechanical stress. Follow applicable codes and facility guidelines when using in food-contact environments. Store unused product with the cap sealed tightly to prevent premature cure.
