The DO IT BEST 464508 is a frost-proof yard hydrant designed for outdoor water supply applications where freeze protection is required. It features a 1-piece variable-flow plunger paired with a large cushion-type seal that resists damage and maintains a positive shutoff even when debris or foreign particles are present. The casing is 1-inch galvanized steel pipe with a 3/4-inch NPT inlet and a 3/4-inch MHT brass nozzle. An automatic drain feature opens the drain port when the plunger is in the closed position, allowing standing water to evacuate below the frost line and preventing ice damage. Licensed plumbers and irrigation contractors are the typical installers for this type of hydrant.
This hydrant is suited for residential and light commercial properties where a reliable outdoor water source is needed at a fixed location such as a yard, barn, pasture, or garden. The 3-foot bury depth positions the valve seat and drain port below the frost line in moderate climates. A tamper-resistant lock feature allows the hydrant to be secured in the closed position using a standard padlock or bolt through the link on the head assembly. Overall installed length above grade is the bury depth plus 24 inches. Not approved for installation in California or Louisiana. Lead-free construction.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation frost-proof yard hydrant compatible with standard 3/4-inch NPT supply line connections in residential and light commercial outdoor plumbing systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off the water supply at the source before connecting or servicing the hydrant. The supply line must be installed with a downward slope away from the hydrant to allow the automatic drain to function correctly — a flat or back-pitched supply line will cause water to remain above the frost line and defeat the freeze-protection design. Verify bury depth is sufficient for the local frost line before installation.
