The DISSTON COMPANY 571307 is a high-speed steel drill bit with 8 percent cobalt content, ground to a 135-degree split point and sized at 1/2 inch diameter by 6 inches overall length with a 3/8-inch shank. The cobalt alloy raises the heat threshold, allowing the bit to cut efficiently at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees F without losing hardness or edge geometry. The 135-degree split point features four cutting edges that bite into the work surface immediately, reducing thrust force and eliminating the bit-walking common with standard 118-degree points. This is a jobber-length bit suited for general-purpose drilling in demanding materials encountered on the job site or in the shop.
This bit is recommended for drilling in hard metals including heat-treated steel, stainless steel, chrome alloys, manganese steel, titanium, and armor plate. Its cobalt content and split-point geometry make it appropriate for applications where standard HSS bits overheat or dull prematurely. Typical users include HVAC technicians drilling sheet metal enclosures, plumbers working through structural steel, electricians running conduit through hard steel members, and fabricators working with high-alloy stock. The 3/8-inch shank fits standard 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch drill chucks.

Disconnect or de-energize any associated electrical or mechanical system before drilling into live enclosures or structural components per applicable codes.
