The DISSTON COMPANY 571232 is a cobalt high speed steel jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling into hard and abrasion-resistant metals. It measures 5/32 inches in diameter and 3-1/8 inches in length, with a straight shank for use in standard drill chucks. The 135-degree split point features four cutting edges that allow fast penetration and prevent the bit from walking on contact. An 8 percent cobalt content gives the bit heat resistance and cutting efficiency at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees F, sustaining performance through demanding applications where standard HSS bits lose their edge.
This bit is suited for professional drilling in hard metals including heat treated steel, stainless steel, chrome, manganese steel, titanium, and armor plate. It is sized for use in jobber-length applications where moderate reach is needed without sacrificing rigidity. Electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and general trade mechanics working with hard ferrous and exotic metals will find this bit appropriate for both hand-drill and drill press use. It is sold individually as a carded unit with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement or supplemental drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a straight shank. Recommended for drilling hard metals including heat treated steel, stainless steel, chrome, manganese steel, titanium, and armor plate.
This bit is installed by a licensed or qualified trade technician or mechanic into a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Use appropriate drilling speeds for hard metals — lower RPM settings are recommended for stainless and titanium to reduce heat buildup. Cutting fluid or oil should be applied during drilling to extend bit life and maintain cutting efficiency. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before drilling to prevent movement.
