The DISSTON COMPANY 282830 is a carbide-tipped drill bit engineered for clean, controlled penetration through hard, brittle materials. Measuring 5/16 inch in diameter and 2-7/8 inches in length, it features a spear-pointed tip geometry that minimizes breakout as the bit exits the material on the far side. The zinc finish adds surface protection for storage and repeated use. Licensed tradespeople and experienced installers reach for this bit when precise, chip-free holes are required in unforgiving substrates.
This bit is suited for work on ceramic tile, mirrors, glass of all types, marble, vitrolite, and china. It fits any 3/8-inch drill press or variable-speed drill with a standard shank, making it compatible with common tool inventories on residential and light commercial job sites. Typical applications include fixture mounting, anchor installation, and penetration work in tiled walls, glass panels, and stone surfaces.
Designed for use with any 3/8-inch drill press or variable-speed drill accepting a standard round shank. Appropriate for drilling ceramic tile, mirrors, glass of all types, marble, tile, vitrolite, and china.
Installation should be performed by a qualified tile setter, glazier, or experienced tradesperson familiar with hard-surface drilling techniques. Use water or a compatible cutting fluid to keep the bit cool and extend carbide life when drilling glass or dense tile. Apply steady, moderate pressure and keep drill speed variable and controlled to prevent cracking or chipping the substrate. Never force the bit through the material or run at excessively high RPM on glass or mirror surfaces.
