The DISSTON COMPANY 197593 is a cobalt-enhanced high speed steel (HSS) drill bit designed for cutting through hard and abrasion-resistant metals. It features a 135-degree split point geometry with four cutting edges that promote fast penetration and reduce bit walking on contact. The cobalt content is 8 percent by composition, which raises the bit's heat tolerance to sustained operating temperatures in excess of 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This jobber-length bit measures 13/64 inches in diameter with a straight shank and is suited for use in standard drill chucks. It is intended for installation by machinists, pipefitters, maintenance mechanics, and other trade professionals who regularly drill in ferrous and specialty metals.
The 197593 is recommended for drilling operations in heat-treated steel, stainless steel, chrome, manganese steel, titanium, and armor plate. Its jobber length makes it compatible with benchtop drill presses, magnetic base drills, and handheld power drills. The four-edge split point design is particularly useful when starting holes on curved or slick metal surfaces where a standard point would skate. This bit is sold individually on a card and is appropriate for shop, field, and industrial maintenance applications.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks on handheld power drills and benchtop or magnetic base drill presses.
This bit should be installed and operated by qualified trade personnel familiar with metal drilling procedures. Secure the workpiece before drilling and use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or titanium to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Do not exceed the recommended RPM range for the bit diameter as excessive speed accelerates heat damage to the cutting edges. Wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety requirements.
