The DISSTON COMPANY 119974 is a 1/4-inch diameter by 4-inch length jobber-length drill bit manufactured from 4341 high-speed steel (HSS) with a black oxide finish. The 135-degree split point features four cutting edges that reduce walking on contact and promote fast, aggressive penetration without a center punch. Black oxide tempering lowers frictional resistance and improves chip evacuation during drilling. The straight shank accepts standard 3-jaw drill chucks on corded or cordless drills. This bit is suited for general-purpose trade use across a wide range of common materials encountered on residential and light commercial job sites.

The 119974 is recommended for drilling wood, plastic, wallboard, plywood, soft metals, aluminum, brass, and bronze. It can be used occasionally in stainless steel and other hard metals where a dedicated HSS or cobalt bit may not be available. Typical install scenarios include rough-in drilling for plumbing, electrical, and HVAC penetrations through wood framing and wallboard, as well as sheet metal pilot holes in lighter-gauge material.
