The DEWALT DW8356 is a Type 27 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for aggressive stock removal and blending on metal surfaces. The disc measures 4.5 inches in diameter with a 5/8 inches-11 threaded hub and carries a 36-grit abrasive rating, making it suited for heavy grinding, weld blending, and surface prep on structural steel and fabricated components. The zirconia alumina grain self-sharpens during use, sustaining cut rate as the disc wears. Licensed trades and metal fabricators reach for this disc when a grinding wheel leaves too rough a finish but a finer abrasive would slow the work down.
This flap disc is used in metal fabrication shops, structural steel work, pipeline work, and general ironwork applications. The T27 flat-profile geometry keeps the disc flush to the workpiece, which suits flat surface blending and weld seam grinding. It is sold individually and is compatible with 4.5-inch angle grinders equipped with a 5/8 inches-11 spindle thread, the standard arbor size for small-diameter right-angle grinders used in HVAC sheet metal work, plumbing rough-in, and general trade fabrication.
Designed for use with 4.5-inch right-angle grinders fitted with a 5/8 inches-11 spindle thread.
Mounting and use should follow ANSI B7.1 safety standards for abrasive wheels. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and never exceed the maximum RPM rated for the disc. Ensure the grinder guard is in place before operation. Wear appropriate eye and face protection when operating abrasive grinding equipment.
