The DEWALT DW8314 is a Type 29 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for aggressive grinding and blending on metal surfaces. The conical T29 profile increases surface contact on flat and contoured workpieces, making it well suited for weld removal, surface preparation, and stock removal tasks. At 120 grit, it delivers a fine finish pass while still cutting efficiently. The 4.5-inch disc mounts via a 5/8 inch-11 threaded hub, the standard arbor size on most angle grinders used by metalworkers, fabricators, and maintenance technicians.
This disc is a common choice for metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and on-site construction work where both grinding and finishing are required in a single tool. The zirconia alumina abrasive grain self-sharpens during use, extending disc life compared to standard aluminum oxide flap discs. It is appropriate for use on steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous metals where a consistent, controlled surface finish is needed at the 120-grit level.
Designed as a replacement-style flap disc for 4.5-inch angle grinders fitted with a 5/8 inch-11 spindle thread, which is the standard configuration for most corded and cordless angle grinders in the trade.
Installation is performed by metalworkers, fabricators, or maintenance technicians using a standard 4.5-inch angle grinder. Ensure the grinder is unplugged or the battery is removed before mounting or removing the disc. Confirm the grinder spindle RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating before use. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when operating grinding equipment.
