The DEWALT DW8255 is a Type 27 (flat profile) flap disc designed for aggressive grinding and blending on metal surfaces. Measuring 4.5 inches in diameter with a 5/8 inches-11 threaded arbor, it mounts directly to standard angle grinders used in fabrication, welding prep, and metal finishing applications. The disc uses a Z60 zirconia alumina abrasive grain at 60 grit, which delivers a fast cut rate and extended service life compared to standard aluminum oxide flaps. The XP designation indicates an engineered resin bond and high-density flap construction that resists glazing and maintains consistent stock removal throughout the disc life.
This flap disc is suited for use on mild steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous metals in both shop and field environments. Typical applications include weld seam blending, surface conditioning, edge deburring, and light stock removal on fabricated assemblies. The Type 27 flat profile is preferred when working on flat or slightly contoured surfaces where a low grinding angle is needed. Installation is handled by metal fabricators, ironworkers, pipefitters, and general maintenance mechanics using a standard angle grinder.
Designed for use with standard 4.5 inch angle grinders equipped with a 5/8 inches-11 spindle thread. Confirm grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the maximum RPM marked on the disc before use.
Installation and disc changes must be performed with the grinder unplugged or the battery removed. Thread the disc firmly onto the spindle by hand and verify the flap disc is fully seated before operation. Always inspect the disc for damage before mounting — do not use a disc that shows cracks, missing flaps, or backing plate deformation. Operators should wear appropriate PPE including eye and face protection in accordance with ANSI B11 and applicable workplace safety standards.
