The DEWALT DW1706 is a 1/4-inch brad point drill bit designed for clean, accurate boring in wood and wood-composite materials. The brad point tip centers the bit on contact, reducing walk and producing a clean entry hole with minimal tear-out on the exit side. This type of bit is a standard tool in the kits of carpenters, millwrights, finish woodworkers, and plumbers running low-voltage or water-supply lines through framing. It is sold individually, making it a straightforward replacement for a worn or broken bit without the need to purchase a full set.
The DW1706 is suited for residential and light commercial woodworking and rough-in applications. Typical uses include boring through dimensional lumber, plywood, MDF, and similar wood-based panels. It fits any standard 3-jaw drill chuck that accepts 1/4-inch shank sizes, making it compatible with corded and cordless drill drivers commonly used on the job site or in the shop.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement brad point drill bit for use in any standard drill or drill press accepting a 1/4-inch shank.
Brad point bits are intended for use in wood and wood-composite materials only — do not use in metal, masonry, or tile, as doing so will damage the tip geometry. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened before operation and confirm the workpiece is secured. When boring through material, reduce feed pressure as the bit exits to minimize tear-out on the back face.
