The DEWALT DW1692 is a long power ship auger bit designed for boring clean, fast holes through wood framing, timber, and structural lumber. Ship auger bits use a single-spur, single-flute design that clears chips efficiently and maintains direction through long cuts. The DW1692 measures 1-1/2 inches in diameter and is built for demanding production drilling applications. Electricians, plumbers, HVAC installers, and general contractors reach for ship auger bits when running pipe, conduit, or duct through wood members where a standard spade or twist bit will not perform.
This bit is suited for residential and light commercial rough-in work where large-diameter holes must be bored through joists, studs, plates, and beams. The long-body ship auger geometry allows the bit to follow the grain and stay on line through thick lumber without the aggressive wandering common to spade bits. It is sold individually and is compatible with standard right-angle drills, heavy-duty corded drills, and drill presses with a 7/16-inch hex or round shank chuck appropriate for this style of bit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use ship auger bit compatible with right-angle drills and heavy-duty corded drills accepting a hex or round shank auger bit drive.
Ship auger bits are typically used by electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians during rough-in drilling operations. Always power down and disconnect the drill before changing bits. When boring through framing near electrical wiring or mechanical lines, verify clearances per NEC or applicable local code before drilling. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection, when operating large-diameter auger bits.
