The DEWALT DW1642 is a self feed bit designed for fast, aggressive boring through wood framing, sheathing, and similar materials. Self feed bits use a center point screw to pull the bit into the material, reducing the effort needed to drive the cut. The DW1642 is sized at 4-5/8 inches, making it well suited for larger-diameter hole applications such as running pipe, conduit, or cable through structural members. Plumbers, electricians, and rough-in carpenters are the primary installers of this type of bit.
This bit is used in residential and light commercial construction where large-diameter holes must be bored quickly through dimensional lumber, engineered lumber, or wood panel materials. It is driven by a standard 7/16-inch hex shank, compatible with most heavy-duty corded and cordless drills and right-angle drill drivers commonly used in rough-in trade work. It is sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use self feed bit for standard 7/16-inch hex shank drills and right-angle drill drivers used in wood boring applications.
This bit is installed and operated by electricians, plumbers, or carpenters during rough-in framing work. Ensure the drill is set to a low-speed, high-torque setting before driving the bit into material. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent kickback. Follow applicable NEC or IPC clearance requirements when boring through structural members for utility runs.
