The DEWALT DW1603 is a 1/8 inch high-speed steel mechanics drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling applications in wood and compatible materials. The 135-degree split point tip reduces walking on contact and allows drilling to begin without a center punch, improving accuracy on flat and curved surfaces. A tapered web with web thinning keeps cutting resistance low throughout the stroke. The straight-cylindrical shank provides secure chuck engagement on standard 3-jaw chucks. Right-hand spiral flutes clear chips efficiently during through-hole drilling. This bit is suited for use by electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and general trade professionals who need reliable small-diameter hole making in the field or shop.
The DW1603 is a single-piece bit with a 6 inch overall length and a 1.65 inch flute length, giving it enough reach for typical panel knockouts, pilot holes, and light structural drilling tasks. The oxide finish provides mild corrosion resistance during storage and transit. The regular spiral flute geometry works well in wood, making it a practical choice for residential and light commercial service work where a compact, reliable 1/8 inch bit is needed on short notice.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement mechanics drill bit compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is wood per manufacturer specification.
Install in a drill or drill press with a properly tightened 3-jaw chuck before applying power. Ensure the workpiece is secured before drilling to prevent rotation or shifting. When drilling near electrical components or live panels, follow NFPA 70E safe work practices and de-energize circuits before making penetrations. Allow the bit to cool between extended drilling cycles to preserve temper in the high-speed steel.
