The DEWALT ACCESSORIES DWA1216 is a 1/4 inch industrial-grade cobalt drill bit designed for high-speed drilling into stainless steel and other hard metals. The bit uses a Pilot Point split tip design that engages the material on contact, eliminating bit walking and giving the operator better positional control from the start of the cut. Sold in a 5-pack, this bit is built for trades that regularly work with hard or abrasive ferrous materials where standard HSS bits wear prematurely. The cobalt construction provides heat resistance during prolonged drilling cycles.
This bit is commonly used when drilling into stainless steel sheet and tubing, angle iron, I-beams, and structurally similar hard metals. Plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, ironworkers, and HVAC technicians reach for cobalt bits when working with material that would dull standard twist drill bits quickly. The 1/4 inch diameter is a common size for pilot holes, fastener clearance holes, and conduit or tubing work in both residential and light commercial applications.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting 1/4 inch round shank bits. Suitable for drilling stainless steel, angle iron, I-beams, and similar hard ferrous metals.
Cobalt drill bits should be installed by a qualified tradesperson in a properly rated electric or pneumatic drill. Always secure the workpiece before drilling and wear appropriate eye protection. Use cutting fluid or oil when drilling stainless steel to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Disconnect power to any equipment before drilling into panels or enclosures, and follow applicable NEC or OSHA guidelines for the work environment.
