The DAYTON LAMINA 9-2014-36 is an extra heavy-duty die spring designed for use in stamping dies, punch presses, and progressive tooling applications. Built from chromium-vanadium steel and color-coded yellow for quick duty identification, this spring features a 1-1/4 inch hole diameter, a 5/8 inch rod diameter, and a 3-1/2 inch free length. The D-shaped wire cross-section maximizes contact area against the spring seat, improving load distribution and extending service life under high-cycle compressive loads. Maximum deflection load is 911 pounds at 0.88 inches of travel. Toolmakers, die setters, and maintenance machinists are the primary installers of this component.
This die spring is suited for medium to large stamping and forming dies in both production and prototype tooling environments. It is typically used in strippers, blank holders, nitrogen cylinder alternatives, and guided die sets where consistent, repeatable spring force is required. The yellow color coding indicates extra heavy-duty duty rating, making it straightforward to identify and replace within a die set during scheduled maintenance or rebuild cycles. It is applicable in both automotive tooling and general metal fabrication press applications.
Designed as an ISO 10243 standard die spring replacement for extra heavy-duty applications requiring a 1-1/4 inch hole diameter, 5/8 inch rod diameter, and 3-1/2 inch free length in guided die sets and stamping tooling.
Die springs must be installed by qualified toolmakers or die maintenance personnel with the press fully de-energized and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Always verify that the spring seat and guide rod are clean, free of burrs, and within the dimensional tolerances required for the specified hole and rod diameters before installation. Do not exceed the maximum operating deflection of 25 percent of free length during normal press operation, as over-compression will significantly reduce fatigue life. Inspect springs regularly for cracks, set, or discoloration indicating heat damage.
