The DAYTON LAMINA 5-2448-1 is a press-fit friction guide post designed for use in die sets and stamping press tooling. It measures 3 inches in outside diameter and 12 inches in overall length. Constructed from hardened steel with a chrome-plated finish, this post provides the surface hardness and dimensional precision required for consistent alignment in high-cycle press operations. It is installed by press-fitting into the lower die shoe and serves as the primary alignment member that guides the upper die during stroke. Tool and die makers and tool room technicians are the primary installers.
This guide post is suited for use in medium-to-large die sets where a friction-style post and bushing arrangement is specified. The friction post design relies on close-tolerance sliding contact between the post and its mating guide bushing rather than a ball-bearing or roller cage assembly. This makes it appropriate for applications where die alignment loads are moderate and where a straightforward, serviceable post-and-bushing configuration is preferred. It is commonly found in progressive dies, blanking dies, and forming dies in metal stamping operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation friction guide post for medium-to-large die sets requiring a 3-inch diameter press-fit post with a 12-inch overall length.
Installation is performed by qualified tool and die makers using a hydraulic or arbor press to seat the post into the die shoe bore with the required interference fit. The die set must be fully depressurized and the press locked out and tagged out before any post installation or removal work begins. Verify bore diameter and surface finish in the die shoe prior to pressing to avoid galling or improper seating. Do not hammer the post directly without a proper driver to avoid damaging the chrome-plated surface or altering post geometry.
