The CUSTOM-BLEND CBTSW50 is a white Portland cement-based thin-set mortar packaged in a 50-pound bag, formulated for bonding a wide range of tile and masonry materials to common construction substrates. This non-modified, dry-set mortar delivers reliable bond strength at an economical price point, making it a practical choice for residential and light commercial tile installations. Coverage runs approximately 85 to 95 square feet per 50-pound bag when applied with a 1/4 x 1/4 inch notched trowel. The mortar exceeds ANSI A118.1 and A118.4 specifications for dry-set and latex-portland cement mortars.

This mortar is suited for interior and exterior floor and wall tile installations. Compatible substrates include concrete, masonry, gypsum wallboard, cementitious backer boards, exterior-grade plywood, existing ceramic tile, asbestos-free vinyl flooring, and plastic laminates. It is not recommended for use over hardwood, luan plywood, parquet, particle board, cushion or sponge-back flooring, metal, fiberglass, or OSB panels. Some applications may require supplementing with an acrylic mortar admix per project requirements.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified tile setter following TCNA Handbook guidelines and applicable local building codes. Power-mix to a smooth, lump-free consistency and allow a brief slake period before final mixing. Apply only as much mortar as can be covered before skinning occurs, and back-butter large-format or low-absorption tiles as needed. Clean tools and residue immediately with water before the mortar sets.
