The CS BASSET PRODUCTS FHA-300-1816-8 is a 16-gauge steel safety nail plate designed to protect pipes, tubing, and flexible duct runs from fastener penetration at framing members. Measuring 18 inches in length by 3 inches in width, this guard is installed directly over vulnerable mechanical lines where they pass through or alongside wood studs, joists, and plates. At 16 gauge, the plate provides the rigidity needed to stop standard framing nails and drywall screws from piercing the lines behind it. HVAC technicians and plumbers install this plate as a code-required protective measure during rough-in work on both new construction and retrofit projects.
This safety nail plate is suited for residential and light commercial applications where HVAC refrigerant lines, gas lines, drain lines, or supply and return plumbing runs pass within close proximity to a nailable surface. It is commonly installed by HVAC technicians and plumbers during the rough-in phase, before drywall or sheathing is applied. The plate is nailed or screwed to the face of the framing member to shield the mechanical lines concealed within or immediately behind the cavity.
Designed as a standard-format safety nail plate for use in residential and light commercial HVAC and plumbing rough-in applications where mechanical lines require protection from fastener penetration at wood framing members.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or plumbers during the rough-in phase, prior to wall or ceiling close-in. The plate should be fastened securely to the face of the framing member so that it fully covers the area where the mechanical line passes closest to a nailable surface. Consult applicable local mechanical codes and the International Fuel Gas Code or International Plumbing Code for minimum coverage requirements. Always verify that all lines are properly supported and secured before closing in the wall.
