The CROWN 7008Q is a water-based zinc cold galvanizing compound formulated to provide corrosion protection on bare, exposed, or previously galvanized steel and iron surfaces. It applies like paint and deposits a zinc-rich gray coating that inhibits rust by sacrificial galvanic action — the same principle used in hot-dip galvanizing, applied cold in the field. This 32 oz bottle contains 13.00 oz net fill of compound and is rated for use in temperatures ranging from 50 degrees F to 122 degrees F. It is used by plumbers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, electricians, and general contractors whenever cut edges, welds, drill holes, or abrasions break through an existing galvanized surface.
This compound is suited for touch-up and repair work on galvanized conduit, ductwork, pipe, structural steel, hangers, and hardware in both residential and light commercial applications. It is commonly applied to weld zones and cut ends on galvanized sheet metal duct fabrication, to threaded conduit ends, and to mounting hardware exposed to moisture. The water-based formula reduces solvent exposure concerns in confined or poorly ventilated spaces. It is not approved for food-contact surfaces.
Designed for application on steel and iron substrates where galvanized coating has been cut, welded, drilled, or otherwise compromised. Typical uses include galvanized ductwork, conduit, pipe, structural hangers, and hardware in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade work.
Surface preparation is critical — remove loose rust, mill scale, grease, and contaminants before application. This compound is typically applied by brush, roller, or spray by the trade professional performing the metalwork or installation. Work in areas with adequate ventilation even though the formula is water-based. Allow adequate cure time before exposing the coating to moisture or mechanical contact.
