The CONTINENTAL CONTITECH 20039598 is a BX-section cogged V-belt designed for power transmission applications in HVAC, industrial, and agricultural equipment. Sold under the belt number BX85, it features a Fiber-Reinforced Vytracord construction with a cogged (notched) profile that increases flexibility and reduces heat buildup during operation. The belt has an outside length of 88.0 inches and an internal length of 86.80 inches. Its oil-resistant compound helps the belt hold up in environments where minor oil exposure is unavoidable. Rated for a maximum working temperature of 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) and a minimum of -40 degrees F (-40 degrees C), this belt handles a broad range of service conditions.
This belt is suited for use in blower drives, fan drives, compressor drives, and general power transmission setups found in residential and commercial HVAC equipment, as well as light industrial machinery. The BX section designation indicates a 21/32-inch top width profile, making it a direct fit for BX-sheave grooves. The Torque-Flex style construction allows the belt to run on smaller-diameter sheaves without the fatigue cracking associated with standard wrapped belts, which is an advantage in tight drive configurations common in packaged HVAC units and air handlers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for BX85-designated V-belt applications using BX-section sheaves in HVAC blower drives, fan drives, and general power transmission equipment.
Belt replacement is typically performed by HVAC technicians or mechanical technicians. Always de-energize and lock out the equipment before removing the belt guard or accessing the drive. Adjust sheave center distance to allow belt installation without forcing the belt over the sheave rim, then re-tension to the drive manufacturer's specification. Inspect sheave grooves for wear before installing a new belt, as worn grooves accelerate belt degradation.
